PEOPLE ARE FLUID, FLEETING, MULTI-FACETED BEINGS.

TOO EXPANSIVE FOR A PAPER CV OR PDF FILE.

Portfolio index

The traditional CV is a short written summary of one’s career and education.

I am not interested in tradition without merit.

For me, the requirement to fit my life experiences and potentiality in one page feels reductive and effacing. People are fluid, fleeting, multi-faceted beings. The paper CV (and its digital equivalent, the PDF file) is inherently fixed and profoundly limiting.

I believe the modern era needs mediums that better capture our essence, expression, and the engagements that feed into who we are – personally and professionally.

My medium of choice is the website. The website embodies my enjoyment of working with the intersection of language, technology, and design. It’s also easily updatable, a necessity for me as a person who’s love for learning and change tends to manifest in involvement with many projects.

    Tech

    The documentary

I’m passionate about technology, curious about possible world futures, and keen to play a role in the emergence of new systems.

    WEB3

Marketing for blockchain at both a crypto and institutional level continously expands my view on the potentiality of technology to create new political-economic models. While tempting to reduce this to cryptolibertarianism, decentralized technology can also form the basis for a political regime where monetary production is collectively owned, i.e. a form of cryptocommunism.

Thinking about these possible outcomes and the ethics of money and information is very interesting! These open questions and the excitement of the unknown combined with constant innovation is what keeps me in the space.

    AI + RESPONSIBLE TECH

I’m familiar with the basic premises of machine learning and key issues in AI ethics from my involvement with an “ethics and technology”-themed reading group.

I also keep an eye on what’s happening in All Tech is Human’s Responsible Tech community. In 2023 I met a fellow RT member filming a documentary about reclaiming our attention and autonomy from digital devices. You might see me featured if my interview makes the cut!

    Nature

    Eco-Allies community
    Wildya
    Biosphere Expeditions

I grew up visiting farms, taking long country walks, and riding horses whenever I could. I’m deeply interested in the effects of nature on our psychology, from TCM’s ‘five seasons’ to the neuroscience behind human–animal interaction.

Reading Bill Plotkin’s Nature and the Human Soul and hand-feeding Bactrian camels at the zoo inspired me to find ways to re-center nature. The below two projects are the result of my interest in nature work!

    WILDYA

I’m a founding member of the ‘eco-allies’ community and doing user research for Wildya, a tech platform to help transform eco-anxiety into action with plans to ‘pay nature’ via donations to re-wilding initiatives.

    SNOW LEOPARDS

In August 2024 I will be joining a snow leopard conservation expedition in Kyrgyzstan. We will be tracking and observing the elusive ‘ghost of the mountains’ through the Tien Shan range, where their status and distribution remain relatively unknown.

    Psychology & health

I obtained my M.A. in Philosophy of Psychology from King’s College London in the United Kingdom in 2020. My dissertation evaluated theories on ‘mirror neurons’ as the neurophysiological basis of empathy.

My undergraduate philosophy degree also had a psychological leaning, with my dissertation focusing on what ancient philosophers had to say about happiness amid uncertainty, misfortune, and fear of death.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

I am certified in Mental Health First Aid. I’m also certified in teaching restorative yoga, a practice I use in my daily life for its mental health benefits.

I’ve taken a class on the neuroscience of mindfulness at University of Toronto and am highly interested in somatic practices. I plan to become a psychotherapist and a death doula in the second half of life.

I love storytelling and always have twenty ideas for future projects in my head. :)

    CREATIVE WRITING

I’m enrolled in the Certificate Program in Creative Writing at the University of Toronto and am experimenting with my first novel draft.

    Volunteering

    Annex Cat Rescue
    Currently fostering (petfinder)

Volunteering is important to me as a practice of seva or selfless service.

    COMMUNITY

I was a crisis line responder with the Distress Centre of Greater Toronto in 2021 and a peer mentor with Youth Assisting Youth in 2022.

I regularly participate in Moontime Sisters’ annual fundraising event combatting ‘period poverty’  in indigenous communities in Canada’s North.

    ANIMAL WELFARE

I’ve been involved in rescue work for street cats since 2016. My involvement mostly involves fostering cats and kittens, socializing feral cats, and participating in fundraising and awareness campaigns. I currently volunteer for Annex Cat Rescue.

    Jewelry
    Etsy

I began selling handmade jewelry in 2020 to recover the costs for jewelry-making supplies.

    JEWELRY AS LUXURY, NOT NECESSITY

Unfortunately, the jewelry industry inherits a legacy of violence, exploitation, and environmental harm. It is virtually impossible to participate in ethical jewelry-making.

I also do not think the world needs more consumer products!

I’m closing my Etsy shop, but it remains open while I use up my existing materials.

    NEW DIRECTION

I am in the process of using the hundreds of beads and findings in my possession for a collection that is environmentally-minded. It features recyclable, re-usable shipping materials and all profit (revenue – expenses) will be donated to nature-related causes.

    Philosophy

Essay on metaphysics of fictional entities (Brigham Young)
Essay on Plato’s Symposium (UC Berkeley)
Essay on Barthes’ Death of the Artist (McGill University)

    Portfolio - PFY

I obtained my undergradate degree in joint honours philosophy and political science from McGill University and my master’s degree in philosophy of psychology from King’s College London. I love thinking and writing (especially at a meta level!).

    PUBLICATIONS

I have had various essays published in academic journals by universities including McGill University, UC Berkeley, and Brigham Young.

I have also had non-academic essays published in print and online magazines. A line from an essay of mine commissioned for Feel Beauty’s print journal was featured heavily in the company’s marketing in 2021.

    PHILOSOPHY TEACHING

I have taught philosophy to children in primary schools in the United Kingdom through The Philosophy Foundation. I was also briefly involved with a Toronto non-profit running philosophy workshops for youth but parted ways due to ideological difference.

I have come to view philosophy primarily as a therapeutic tool. I’m not interested in promoting philosophy within the ‘ivory tower’ of the university, or in public philosophy that models itself after the way it’s taught in formal education.
